Kazinczy Synagogue Entrance Ticket

Europe’s most outstanding Orthodox Jewish house of worship is one of the most significant Art Nouveau (Jugendstil) monuments in Hungary, and as such, it is protected as a national monument by the Hungarian State. The walls and ceilings are decorated with stained mosaic windows that let in natural light, making it probably the most beautifully illuminated synagogue in Europe.

The landmark is an interesting mix of traditional and modern styles that was built between 1912 and 1913 according to the plans of the Löffler brothers. It is part of a complex that includes a school and communal hall, which is the center of the Orthodox community. It is also one of the most characteristic synagogues of Hungarian architecture. This synagogue is the main building of the Orthodox center, functioning like a small village in the heart of the Jewish ghetto. Around the area, kosher shops, kosher butchers, and even the only mikve (ritual bath) in Budapest can be found.
